This shop is awesome!! 3 levels of needlework. As you enter, you are greated by canvases, canvases and more canvases. And a few employees. Straight ahead is the Christmas room, which contains everything you need for your perfect Christmas - down to the chimney for Santa to climb down. Stockings are hung by the chimney, but also on many boards. Their are 20 or so smaller boards with ornaments on them. A couch to relax on, should your shopping partner need a nap. All of the painted canvases are on the main floor, along with threads. They carry DMC, Anchor, Rainbow Gallery, Vineyard, Brown Paper Packages, Gumnuts, Caron, Thread Sampler, and so many more. Mill Hill, Sundance and SJ beads can all be found in Designer's Desk. Need new scissors, a funky fob, frame weight, tacks, stretcher bars, blank canvas? You'll find all of these within the walls of Designer's Desk. To go from the first floor up or down, you have the option of the stairs or the elevator. Yes, I said Elevator. What a great idea for all those that have a hard time navigating stairs. The upstairs contains charted canvas projects - Libby Sturdy, Nancy's Needle, Laura Perin, DebBee's Designs, Jean Hilton, Harbour Lights and many more. I'm trying to write this from memory. There is one room totally devoted to Mill Hill and their fantastic kits. There is also a room that contains all kinds of counted cross-stitch charts. And another room with the fabric to go with the counted cross-stitch. The framing room is on the 2nd floor with plenty of samples of frames and mat boards to accent your beautifully stitched piece. The greatest part of the 2nd floor, besides the bathroom, is the stitching room. It is so well lit, partially from sun, but also with many lights to help on those cloudy Chicago winter days. No need to bring your floor stand with you, they have plenty, just waiting to b used. Now, let's take the elevator down 2 floors to Pat's bargain basement. Remember that chart you found in your stash with the discontinued thread - you'll probably find it in the basement. Looking for an older canvas that is no longer being painted? Take a look in the bargain basement. If you can walk out of Designer's Desk without purchasing anything, you didn't come to shop. )
